A new independent lab test, commissioned by the holistic food scanning app Olive, has found that several popular baby food products contain lead levels up to 257% higher than California’s Prop 65 daily limit.  This is the largest heavy metal screening of baby food to date, analyzing close to 300 products from major brands. Lead is a known neurotoxin, and there is no safe level of exposure, particularly for children. Even small amounts can permanently impact brain development, lower IQ, and increase risks for learning disabilities, attention issues, and behavioral problems.  While California’s Prop 65 law sets daily maximum intake limits, federal agencies like the FDA have still not established enforceable limits for heavy metals in most baby foods. This regulatory gap allows brands to continue selling contaminated products with no accountability.

On Tuesday, 7月 22, the House Appropriations Committee will meet, and we have one last chance to stop Section 453, the federal provision that would grant legal immunity to the pesticide industry, including over 57,000 toxic products.  This is our moment to raise our voices for the health of our children, the future of our fertility, and the integrity of our legal system.

They are caused not just by genetics, but by either one time or repeated exposure to low and high levels of harmful chemicals found in nearly everything, including our water, food, air, vaccines, wine, pajamas, cookware, sanitary products, kitchen cabinets, flooring, cars, clous seeding chemicals, cleaning fragrances at work, and in the rain that falls on our gardens. Over 86,000 chemicals are allowed in our environment, including food, homes, body care, and hundreds of other daily exposure points.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced the Pesticide Injury Accountability Act, legislation that would ensure that pesticide manufacturers can be held responsible for the harm caused by their toxic products. Specifically, this bill would amend the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act of 1972 (FIFRA) to create a federal right of action for anyone who is harmed by a toxic pesticide.

The harmful health effects of PFAS have been known for over two decades, with internal industry documents revealing evidence of toxicity as early as 1995. Despite clear and mounting scientific evidence, including a 2020 study linking PFAS to immune dysfunction and increased cancer risk, our government has failed to take meaningful action. Today, PFAS are detected in the blood of 97–100% of Americans, including newborn babies. These forever chemicals are linked to serious health effects backed by peer-reviewed studies and major health agencies, including cancer, infertility, hormone disruption, immune suppression, liver damage, low birth weights, developmental delays in children, and metabolic disorders.

In light of recent testing that revealed the presence of glyphosate in popular breakfast cereals, including many labeled organic, it’s clear that avoiding toxic exposures entirely is no longer possible. These chemicals are in our soil, water, food, and the air we breathe. While we continue to advocate for a cleaner food supply, we must also support our bodies in dealing with the daily burden of unavoidable toxins. That starts with making sure our detoxification systems are functioning properly.

You may have seen Bayer’s recent disturbing attempt to manipulate public opinion: an ad campaign framing glyphosate as a vital “tool” for farmers. They go on to use fear tactics, claiming our food costs will skyrocket if we don’t have policies like a pesticide immunity shield that would protect them from lawsuits. This blatant corporate propaganda ignores the devastating truth: glyphosate is harming our food system, our health, and our economy. In fact, its use is directly contributing to higher food prices in several ways. 

As Bayer pays millions to lobbyists and lawyers to convince American elected officials that foreign agrochemical companies should enjoy complete immunity from lawsuits, consumer activists raise the alarm about glyphosate and 85 pesticides that have been banned in other countries, 84% of which cause reproductive harm, that this immunity shield would cover.
