Panera Bread Petition

Total Count: 5,951

Why we commissioned testing of the top twenty +1 fast food brands:

Fast food is consumed by eighty-five million Americans each day, and many chains are often the suppliers of school lunches. Thirty million school meals are served to our children each day, and for millions of underprivileged children, these toxic meals are their only access to nutrition. Our previous testing has shown that America’s school lunches are indeed toxic.

To further investigate the status of a major source of food and nutrition in America, アメリカ中のママ supporters, including Children’s Health Defense, the Centner Academy, and many individual supporters, recently initiated extensive testing focused specifically on America’s most popular fast food chains to explore the potential contamination of our food supply, which is likely affecting our physical and mental health.

Petition to Panera Bread

Dear CEO and Board of Panera Bread,

Moms Across America, a nationwide non-profit, initiated an extensive testing program on the top twenty fast food brands in America, including Panera Bread, plus one restaurant, California’s In-N-Out Burger. Forty-two samples of 21 brands were tested for the most widely used herbicide in the world, glyphosate and AMPA.

The results:

Panera Bread had the highest levels of glyphosate.

Panera Bread’s glyphosate total levels 439.11 total for two types of meals, the steak and cheddar sandwich and the deli ham sandwich, was 94X higher than Chipotle’s meals, at 4.65 ppb total, in the carnitas bowl with everything and the beef burrito with cheese.

Moms Across America requests that Panera Bread take these results very seriously and make immediate changes to its sourcing.

We request that Panera Bread alert your suppliers that you will be transitioning to sourcing grains for your sandwich bread and wheat products from suppliers who do not spray their wheat crops with glyphosate or any other toxic agrochemicals. This is essential for basic human health at any level of consumption of your food.

We applaud the fact that Panera bread samples did not have detectable levels of any other harmful pesticides. High levels of glyphosate, however, a known carcinogenic, specifically linked to childhood leukemia, non Hodgkins Lymphoma, endocrine disrupting, reproductive health impacting, nervous system damaging, liver and kidney disease causing neurotoxin that can lead to depression, is unacceptable and must be on your “No, No List.”  The presence of glyphosate herbicides in your meals does not reflect your commitment to “clean, wholesome food,” and we are asking you to add glyphosate to your “No, No” list.

We ask Panera Bread to lead the way with organically and regeneratively grown wheat products to support the health of your customers, the soil, and our great country.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

アメリカ中のママ

This is absolutely appalling, and to know that schools across America are selling these foods/brands in the lunchroom is disgusting! As fellow Americans, you CEO should be ashamed of yourselves… how would you feel if you children could only eat the food you produce?
