Colleen has dedicated her life to improving nutrition quality in food to enable people to be well and better achieve their dreams.
She spent the first twenty years of her career improving policies in child nutrition programs both working for Congress (Cong. George Miller, D-CA) and California Food Policy Advocates. She later started her own nonprofit, A Better Course, to focus on institutional injustices that prevent children from receiving healthy food at school and in the food stamp program (SNAP).
Seeking a more efficient leverage point to improve nutrition from soil to table, Colleen turned to the for-profit sector. She launched ZEGO LLC in 2013, making superfood-based products accessible to everyone regardless of special diet needs and tested for glyphosate and over 400 chemicals, heavy metals, allergens, and gluten. ZEGO has pioneered purity transparency in food, linking each product’s packaging QR code (“T-CODE”) to its lab test results.
ZEGO was certified as a B Corp in 2017 and was named “Best in the World” for its positive community impact in 2018. In 2019, ZEGO was certified as a Women-Owned (WBENC).
Colleen is raising three children and a dog with her husband Erik Puknys.
